DFB, pay attention! Austria has won our Bundesliga shooting star!

Heidenheim- Whoever looks for the shooting star of BundesligaIf you ask about the start of the season, you can’t get past Paul Wanner (18)! Youngster from 1. FC Heidenheim, who was still playing in the lower house last year, is already one of the discoveries of the season. And arouses desire!

Where is Paul Wanner's path leading? The cheeky and light-footed performances of the Bayern Munich loanee were noticed beyond the country's borders at the start of the season!

In plain language: The Austrian Football Association (ÖFB) would have preferred to call up the native Austrian (father German, mother from Austria) for the upcoming international matches.

Austrian coach Ralf Rangnick (66) said openly: “We are in regular contact with Paul Wanner. He would have been a clear candidate.”

It was not the first rapprochement with the neighboring association – in November 2022, Wanner was already allowed to show himself at a perspective training course of the Austrians – and remained on the radar!

And how did the shooting star react? He initially declined because he first “wants to really establish himself as a Bundesliga player,” said Rangnick.

What a wise decision! Because once you have played a competitive game for the senior national team, your decision to play for that nation stands for the rest of your career.

And what does our national coach Julian Nagelsmann (37) say about the top talent? “I am pleased with his development […] He is a player with a lot of potential and speed, who we have in our plans for the DFB Festival.

Would you like some examples? On the first match day, it was Wanner's goal that paved the way for Heidenheim to win their first league match against St. Pauli (2:0). Wanner crowned himself the youngest goalscorer in Heidenheim's Bundesliga history – admittedly still a short one.

On the second match day against FC Augsburg, Wanner grabbed the ball in the 9th minute as if it were the most natural thing in the world and took the penalty. The youngster stayed cool like an old hand. He later set up the third of four goals with a clever pass.

Noteworthy: A few days earlier, Wanner had almost single-handedly turned the return match against BH Häcken to qualify for the UEFA Conference League.

Does the DFB see Wanner as having the potential to become a permanent regular in the National teamhe should not hesitate too long.
