BRS condemns arrest of former digital media director

Hyderabad, September 5 (IANS): Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) has condemned the arrest of former Telangana Digital Media director Dileep Konatham and demanded his immediate release.

BRS acting chairman KT Rama Rao described Dileep’s arrest as “illegal”.

According to reports, Dileep was arrested for certain objectionable posts on his social media accounts.

Rama Rao said in a statement that Dileep Konatham was “illegally” arrested in a brazen act of “autocratic” governance without any formal information or clarity on the allegations against him.

He explained that this arrest came after a series of incidents in which Dileep had questioned the inefficiency of the Revanth Reddy government, which appears to be pursuing a policy of revenge to silence critics.

BRS working president KTR added that despite an earlier rebuke from the Supreme Court for such actions, the state government continues to crack down on those who express their opinions, showing total disregard for democratic principles.

KTR demanded the immediate release of Dileep and stressed that no amount of false charges or arrests will silence the voices questioning this government.

The BRS chairman added that the blatant suppression of freedom of expression in Telangana has been going on for nine months and reflects a trend towards autocracy under Congress rule.

When several BRS leaders learned of Dileep's arrest, they rushed to the office of the Hyderabad Police Commissioner and demanded his immediate release.

Former minister Jagadish Reddy, RS Praveen Kumar, Dasoju Sravan and others reached the office of the Police Commissioner.

Former minister and BRS chairman T. Harish Rao condemned Dileep's arrest and called it a clear sign of growing authoritarianism in the state.
