Jorge Masvidal is “100%” sure he will return to MMA for his next fight and believes a UFC title challenge is “never out of the question”

After trying his hand at the sweet science, Jorge Masvidal is ready to get back to work in the Octagon.

“Gamebred” left the UFC last year after losing four fights in a row, including back-to-back losses to Kamaru Usman, followed by two unanimous decision losses to Colby Covington and Gilbert Burns.

Since then, Masvidal has competed in one boxing match – a rematch with Nate Diaz, five years after their BMF title fight at UFC 244. Although he was victorious in their first meeting, Masvidal fell on the scorecards the second time around, losing by majority decision to the “Stockton Samurai” in Anaheim, California.

“I know they got it wrong,” Masvidal told Grind City Media when asked if the judges got it wrong in July. “Nick knows he lost. It's tough. There were some rounds that I clearly won where he was just throwing air punches or punches to my gloves and I knocked the hell out of him and beat the hell out of him. He stayed on his feet, but I kicked the hell out of him and the round still went to him. It was crazy.”

“I hit him with a three-piece and he finally backed away and put his hands up. The crowd went crazy. I was just thinking, man, if I don't knock this guy out – I knew that all along. If I don't knock him out, there's going to be some shit.”

Now the two-time welterweight title challenger is ready to put on the 4-ounce gloves and return to MMA's biggest stage.

“I had a blast boxing, it was fun, it was everything, but there's just nothing in the world that compares to MMA,” Masvidal said. “There's nothing in the world that compares to MMA. I just finished training at American Top Team and it's just the most fun thing I've ever done in my life. A lot of nights I've fallen asleep and just missed doing certain training or certain workouts. I f***ing love it, man.

“Definitely 100 percent back to MMA [next]”I don't know when I'm fighting, but I'm fighting either at the end of this year or next year.”

Masvidal doesn't have an exact name or date yet, but no matter who it is: “Gamebred is confident that he will return to winning ways for the first time since November 2019 and secure a third chance at UFC gold.”

“If I get the biggest fights I can get and beat that motherfucker to death, they're going to beg me to fight for the title,” Masvidal said. “A title fight is never, ever out of the question. Especially for someone as talented as I am.”

In a separate interview with MMA Fighting, Masvidal hinted that a fight with former Bellator champion “Iron” Michael Chandler could be on the cards in December. Chandler has been regularly linked to a fight against Irish megastar Conor McGregor, but with the former two-division champion pulling out of their originally scheduled headliner at UFC 303 in June, Chandler and the UFC may finally be ready to move on.
