Ten people sentenced to prison in Gallia County

GALIA COUNTY, Ohio (WTAP) — Ten people have been sentenced to prison in Gallia County Common Pleas Court.

Gallia County District Attorney Jason D. Holdren announced the sentencing of ten people on Thursday.

Jason McCormick, 38, of Oak Hill, Ohio, was found guilty of 28 counts of rape, first-degree felonies. McCormick faces a minimum of 121 years and a maximum of 126.5 years in prison.

Bretton M. Stutes, 30, was sentenced to 2.5 years in prison after violating the terms of his probation by violating a no-contact order on multiple occasions. He was also convicted of a new crime, menacing by stalking, a fourth-degree felony. Stutes was originally placed on probation after being convicted of two counts of violating a protection order, fifth-degree felonies.

John H. Harkins, Jr., 49, of Vinton, Ohio, was convicted of aggravated assault, a second-degree felony. Harkins was sentenced to a minimum term of four years and a maximum term of six years. Upon release, Harkins will be placed under supervision of the Ohio Adult Parole Authority for 18 months to two years.

Cadarius Moore, 26, of Dayton, Ohio, was convicted of failure to obey an order or signal of a police officer, a third-degree felony. Moore was sentenced to 18 months in prison.

Brandon-Mahdi R. Sandifer, 30, of Durham, North Carolina, was convicted of trafficking cocaine in an amount of 20 grams or more but less than 27 grams, a second-degree felony. Sandifer was sentenced to a mandatory minimum of three years and a maximum of 4.5 years. Upon release, Sandifer will be placed under supervision of the Ohio Adult Parole Authority for 18 months to three years.

David S. Shank, 33, of Vinton, Ohio, was convicted of illegally transporting drugs onto the grounds of a correctional facility, a third-degree felony. Shank was sentenced to two years in prison.

Christopher M. Nott, 47, of Gallipolis, Ohio, was convicted of assault on a police officer, a fourth-degree felony. Nott was sentenced to 18 months in prison.

Christofer J. Shears, 37, of Gallipolis, Ohio, was convicted of possession of criminal instruments, a fifth-degree felony, kidnapping, a second-degree felony, and two counts of child endangerment, first-degree misdemeanors. Shears was sentenced to a minimum of nine years and a maximum of 13 years in prison. Upon release, Shears will be placed under supervision of the Ohio Adult Parole Authority for 18 months to three years.

Curtis A. Canter, 36, of Oak Hill, Ohio, was recently sentenced to 18 months in prison after violating the terms of his probation by failing a drug test and evading treatment. Canter was initially placed on probation after being convicted of unlawful assembly or possession of chemicals for the manufacture of methamphetamine, a third-degree felony.

Roger K. McDaniel, 65, of Crown City, Ohio, was convicted of possession of a weapon while under disability (third-degree felony) and attempted assault (third-degree felony). McDaniel was sentenced to four years in prison. Upon release, McDaniel will be placed under supervision of the Ohio Adult Parole Authority for one to three years.
