Criminal wanted for robbery in Sultanpur shot dead by STF

A wanted criminal and main accused in connection with the broad daylight robbery of a jewelry store in Sultanpur district was killed in an encounter with the special task force of the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh in the early hours of Thursday, officials said.

Mangesh Yadav, who was carrying a reward of Rs 100,000, sustained serious injuries in the encounter and was admitted to the Community Health Centre in Bhadhaiya, where he succumbed to his injuries.

Police seized a .32 caliber pistol, cartridges, a .315 caliber pistol, a motorcycle and looted jewelry at the scene.

Several criminal cases have been filed against Mangesh, who hails from Jaunpur.

The encounter with the members of the gang that carried out a daylight robbery at Bharat Jewellers in Sultanpur town on August 28 took place at around 3:25 am in Misirpur Puraina area of ​​Kotwali Dehat, Sultanpur.

The operation was led by STF Deputy Commissioner of Police DK Shahi and Deputy Commissioner of Police Vimal Singh.

On August 28, five armed men robbed a jewellery shop worth over Rs 20 million at gunpoint in broad daylight in Sultanpur's Majorganj area. Video footage of the incident has surfaced online.

According to eyewitnesses, the incident took place around 12 noon when five men entered the showroom of jeweller Bharatji Soni on two motorcycles. Three of them were wearing helmets and two had covered their faces with scarves. The police and UP STF are investigating the case. Mangesh Yadav was also involved in this robbery.

Previously, the police had arrested three other perpetrators following an altercation.

On Thursday, police received information from an informant about the whereabouts of three criminals. Police surrounded the area, after which a shootout broke out. During the exchange of fire, police officers shot the three criminals in the legs. All three were arrested and taken to hospital.

According to police, five criminals were involved in the robbery. Three of them were arrested, one was killed by the STF and another is still wanted.

Earlier, ADG Lucknow Zone had offered a reward of Rs 100,000 for each of the 11 bandits involved in the jewel robbery. In an encounter near Godwa Inter College near the city on Tuesday morning, police had arrested Sachin Singh and Pushpendra Singh, residents of Shahari Bhimi village in Peeparpur in Amethi, and Tribhuvan Kori alias Lala, a resident of Peeparpur village. They were involved in the gold bullion robbery. These criminals had revealed the names of 12 criminals from Amethi, Azamgarh, Rae Bareli, Jaunpur and Pratapgarh who were involved in the robbery. The leader of the gang, Vipin Singh of Mohanganj police station in Bhawani Nagar in Amethi, is in jail after surrendering before the court in Rae Bareli on August 28.

Police Commissioner Somen Burma said that seven teams have been deployed to catch the criminals and recover the jewelry. The police are searching for these criminals.

The rewards were announced to Furkan alias Gujjar, Anuj Pratap Singh, Arbaaz, Vinay Shukla, all of Ashapuri police station in Mohanganj district Amethi, Mangesh Yadav alias Kumbhe of Agaraura police station Buksa district Jaunpur, Ankit Yadav alias Shekhar, resident of Haripura police station Aspur Devsara district Pratapgarh, Ajay Yadav alias DM of Larpur police station Sigramau district Jaunpur, Arvind Yadav alias Fauji of Chamradih police station Phulpur Azamgarh, Vivek Singh of Bhavani Nagar police station Mohanganj district Amethi, Durgesh Pratap Singh of Naya Purwa near Fire station, Rae Bareli and an unknown criminal.
