Fake police officer cheated woman of Rs 1 million, case registered in Bhubaneswar

The police have now remanded Subhas Kanhar, who was recently arrested for identity fraud. It is alleged that Subhas was cheating people by posing as a police officer. Now it has come to light that the fake police officer cheated a woman of Rs 10 lakh on the pretext of marriage.

The matter came to light after the victim filed a formal complaint in connection with the incident at Khandagiri police station in Bhubaneswar. Apart from this case, two more cases were filed against the fake police officer.

In the recent case, the accused Subhas had developed an intimate relationship with the victim, who is a widow. He had met her on a train journey to Berhampur in 2021. Gradually, the accused developed a relationship with her and took Rs 10 lakh from her on the pretext of marrying her. Khandagiri police had arrested Subhas on Sunday.

Bhubaneswar DCP Prateek Singh said that a detailed investigation was underway in connection with the imposter's fraud cases.

“Subhas identified himself as a police officer. He mainly targeted women and cheated them of money after he had a relationship. He cheated a victim of Rs 10 lakh. Khandagiri police have registered a case in this connection,” Singh said.
