Sandip Ghosh corruption case: ED conducts multiple raids, including at former RG Kar College principal's residence

The Enforcement Directorate is conducting multiple raids at at least five to six locations in Kolkata and Howarah. Among other places, an arrest was made at the residence of former RG Kar director Sandip Ghosh in connection with a case of financial irregularities in RGKar during Ghosh's tenure.

The case is also being investigated by the CBI and Ghosh was arrested in this connection on Monday.

In the morning, an ED team reached Ghosh's residence in Beliaghata at around 6.40 am. However, they had to wait outside as there was no one in the house. The raids began early today at two locations in Howrah and Subhasgram, people in the know said.

Later, Sandip Ghosh's wife came with the keys and the ED officials were able to enter his house. Ghosh's wife said, “Sandip Ghosh is innocent. He is not involved in any corruption. The allegations are false.”

In Howrah, agency officials raided the residences of Biplab Singh and Kousik Kole, suspected to be close associates of Ghosh. Singh was also arrested. He is the seller who obtained an offer illegally in violation of the rules.

Another team of ED officials visited Prasun Chattopadhyay's residence in South 24 Parganas district. In Chandannagar, Hugli, another ED official went to the house of Sandip Ghosh's in-laws. But no one was found in that house. The residence of another businessman, Ankur Roy, is also being searched by the central agency in Madurdaha. Meanwhile, Sandip Ghosh has filed a plea in the Supreme Court against a Calcutta High Court order transferring the investigation into allegations of tender irregularities and maladministration against him from an SIT to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
