Megan Thee Stallion and Quavo remember rapper Rich Homie Quan after his death at the age of 33

The melody star rose to fame over a decade ago, with his career closely intertwined with that of Grammy winner Young Thug, as the two were members of the group Rich Gang.

Quan – real name Dequantes Devontay Lamar – had other hits, including 2013's “Type Of Way” and “Flex (Ooh, Ooh, Ooh),” which inspired rapper iLoveMemphis to write a 2016 track called “Hit The Quan.”

The viral song sparked a “Hit The Quan” dance craze after the rapper popularized a series of dance moves involving low steps and swinging arms in the music video for Flex (Ooh, Ooh, Ooh).

Kendrick Lamar, who has won 17 Grammy Awards, incorporated the dance move into a music video for his song “These Walls” – which also featured “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” actor Terry Crews in a cameo.

Quan's death was confirmed by the Fulton County Coroner's Office, but a cause of death was not given.

“On Thursday, September 5, 2024, the Fulton County Coroner was notified by Grady Memorial Hospital of the death of Dequantes Devontay Lamar,” a PA news agency spokesman said.

“An autopsy is scheduled for Friday, September 6, 2024.”

Music industry titans took to social media to express their sadness over his death.

Megan Thee Stallion, real name Megan Pete, wrote, “RIP to one of the best,” adding a photo of Quan to her Instagram story alongside a broken heart emoji.

Meanwhile, Atlanta rapper Quavo, whose real name is Quavious Keyate Marshall, said: “May God be with us. I never thought this would be part of our journey.”

He shared a photo of the couple on his Instagram story, which also featured his late nephew and Migos groupmate Takeoff.

The late rapper, whose real name was Kirsnick Khari Ball, was shot dead in 2022.

The star was also remembered at the R&B Hip-Hop Power Players Awards in Los Angeles.

After being named Artist of the Year, US rapper Playboi Carti said, “RIP Rich Homie Quan,” before leaving the stage with his award.

US star 2 Chainz also remembered the rapper on Instagram and wrote to his 12.7 million followers: “Damn little brother, we were just talking about making a video. We are praying especially for you and your family and praying for anyone who is struggling with something right now.”

US music producer Metro Boomin, whose real name is Leland Tyler Wayne, also shared a series of photos of the couple on Instagram and wrote: “Rich in spirit! You are now immortalized through your classics and your body of work.”

“I pray that God will bless your family with divine comfort and healing.”

A representative for Quan was contacted for comment.
