My First GT, Shapes of Play and Free Weekend announced

PlayStation is celebrating its 30th anniversary with special events and releases. One highlight is “My First GT”. Sony is also drawing attention to the “Shapes of Play” collection.

PlayStation is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year with a series of events and releases, including a free multiplayer weekend and tournaments.

There is also a free trial version called “My First GT”, which allows players “Gran Turismo 7” tasty. Another component is the “Shapes of Play” collection, which was developed by the PlayStation console designers.

To mark PlayStation's 30th anniversary, Polyphony Digital's racing game is being made available in a special trial version. PS4 and PS5 players will receive a trial version called “My First GT” starting this Christmas. It is intended to “encourage players of all skill levels to enjoy the globally acclaimed Gran Turismo 7.”

According to Sony, “My First GT” includes a selection of the “most popular cars, tracks and racing events” that are designed to “evoke the nostalgia and excitement of the very first GT experience”.

It is not clear what players can expect, as later on the game explicitly mentions a “nostalgic homage to the original Gran Turismo game”. Further details will follow.

Free multiplayer weekend and tournaments

Normally PS4 and PS5 players need a PS Plus membershipif they want to access the online modes of their games. For one weekend, this restriction will be lifted.

A free online multiplayer weekend will take place on September 21 and 22, 2024. On these days, owners of Sony consoles can use the online multiplayer of their games without having a PS Plus membership.

That same weekend, Sony hosted a series of eSports tournaments featuring titles such as “NBA 2K24,” “NBA 2K25,” “Madden NFL 24,” “MLB The Show 24,” “EA UFC 5,” “Tekken 8,” and “Guilty Gear -Strive-.”

If someone owns one of these games and qualifies, they can enter a tournament on September 21 and 22 to win a special 30th anniversary avatar and other game-specific prizes. For more information, please contact Sony available on the official tournament website.

Shapes of Play and digital music collection

The “Shapes of Play” collection also launched this year. It is a collection of products that will be available from December. It includes:

• Game forms: Fight – A board game where players challenge a friend. They must arrange four different shapes of the same color on the board to win.
• Game forms: Design – A set of magnetic blocks that can be positioned in any direction to create fun shapes.
• Game forms: Charging – This product offers a new way to power up between games, writes Sony.

Pre-orders are already available at PlayStation DirectThe prices range between 39.99 and 84.99 euros.

In partnership with Sony Music, PlayStation will release digital soundtracks from PlayStation game series every month from October to January. Fans will be able to stream the following soundtracks on Spotify or purchase them from various digital music services, including Amazon Music, Apple Music and select music retailers:

• God of War
• God of War 2
• God of War: The Ghost of Sparta
• Twisted metal
• Starhawk
• Unit 13
