‘Sanjay Roy only suspect’: CBI rules out gang sexual abuse in Kolkata doctor’s murder case | Nation

PTC Web Desk: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has ruled out the possibility of gang sexual assault in the tragic case of murder and sexual assault of a trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata. According to a report in NDTV, the agency has identified Sanjay Roy as the only suspect.

According to the NDTV report, the evidence at hand currently points exclusively to Sanjay Roy and the investigation is currently in its “final stages”. The CBI is preparing to file charges soon. The case was handed over to the CBI by the Kolkata Police, which has been criticised for its handling of the investigation.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee expressed her frustration over the delay, saying, “They don't want justice. They want delay. It has been 16 days, where is the justice?” State Minister Bratya Basu also criticised the CBI for the lack of progress reports, noting that the Kolkata Police had provided more regular updates.

According to NDTV, the CBI has forwarded a medical report containing the accused's DNA to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Delhi for analysis. The agency will finalise its report once the results are available. The CBI has also found that apart from Sanjay Roy, no one else was involved in the gruesome sexual assault and murder of the aspiring doctor on August 9.

The CBI has recorded over 100 statements and conducted 10 polygraph tests during the course of the investigation. They have also filed charges of financial irregularities against Dr Sandip Ghosh, the former principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, in connection with the case.

There have been three arrests in connection with the RG Kar Hospital for financial fraud and organized crime, but no final arrests have been made in the sexual assault and murder cases.
