A tragic accident late Wednesday evening on Interstate 44 near Catoosa resulted in the death of a Bartlesville man.


On September 5, 2024, at approximately 11:59 p.m., a 2004 GMC Sierra driven by 30-year-old Matthew Boyer went off the road on eastbound I-44, about a half-mile east of Catoosa. According to authorities, Boyer's vehicle failed to negotiate a right turn, resulting in a collision with a barrier. The impact caused the truck to overturn and land on its roof.


Pafford EMS rescue personnel arrived at the scene and pronounced Boyer dead due to the severe injuries he sustained in the accident. The driver was trapped in the vehicle for approximately 30 minutes before rescue personnel were able to free him.


The Rogers County Sheriff's Office is investigating the circumstances that led to the fatal incident.
