An investigation has revealed that a monster who murdered a 16-year-old girl and dumped her body in a forest died in a horrific accident after his release from prison.

Thomas Purcell, 36, was found guilty of killing Megan McAlorum in 2004 after picking her up from a diner.

The schoolgirl was discovered with 54 skull fractures in a forest in Belfast.

Purcell was sentenced to life but was released in 2021 after serving 15 years.

He later pleaded guilty to murder, telling a psychologist: “I met the girl, we had sex, I got angry and killed her, that's all.”

Purcell had a number of previous convictions, including robbery, assault, harassment and traffic offenses.

In July 2002 – two years before Megan’s murder – he caused $250,000 in damage to a gazebo at Sir Richard Branson’s country house in Oxford.

When she spoke about her sister’s death, documentary “Britain's Deadliest Kids,” Lynne McAlorum recalled when she learned of Megan's death.

She said: “There were two policemen and my mother was sitting there. They just said: 'It's your daughter.'

“It was very hard. It was unbelievable to see my mother and father. My family was never the same after that.”
