Lamar Jackson has joined an elite society.

In the Baltimore Ravens' season opener against the Kansas City Chiefs, Jackson passed Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Russell Wilson and now ranks third among quarterbacks with the most rushing yards in NFL history.

Jackson now trails Cam Newton and Michael Vick on the all-time list. Jackson had 5,321 yards after his win over Wilson. Newton has 5,628 career rushing yards, while Vick leads the category with 6,109 yards.

With Newton and Vick retired, Jackson is in a good position to take the top spot in the near future. He needs fewer than 800 yards to do so, and his track record suggests he could do so this season.

Jackson has not had fewer than 700 rushing yards in a season since his rookie year and has recorded two 1,000-yard seasons. In his MVP season in 2023, he rushed for 821 yards, leading the Ravens.

The presence of Derrick Henry in the backfield should make Jackson's running work a little easier, but he will still play a major role in the running game. As long as he is a threat, he will inevitably hold the record.
