Shooting at Georgia high school: Colt Gray and father appear in court on charges related to shooting at Apalachee HS

WINDER, Georgia – Colt Gray, the 14-year-old suspect in the Apalachee High School shooting, was arraigned Friday for arraignment.

At his first court appearance on Friday, 14-year-old Colt Gray was ordered held in jail without bail.

The father of the suspected shooter, 54-year-old Colin Gray, also appeared in court on Friday after his arrest.

This was the first court date for the teenager and his father.

The younger Gray is accused of killing four people at his high school, including two teachers and two students, and wounding nine others. The Georgia Bureau of Investigations had previously said he would be tried as an adult.

Gray's lawyer rejected a request for bail and he will remain in custody.

He is charged with four counts of murder and further charges are expected, the GBI said. Gray surrendered to school security at the scene, according to the GBI.

According to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, further charges are expected against Colt Gray.

According to the Barrow County Sheriff's Office, which employs the school's security force, he was taken into custody at 10:30 a.m. Eastern Time on Wednesday, seven minutes after the first 911 call was made.

On Thursday evening, Colin Gray, the 14-year-old's father, was arrested in connection with the fatal shooting and charged with murder, the GBI said.

According to the GBI, Colin Gray was charged with four counts of manslaughter, two counts of premeditated murder and eight counts of child abuse.

At a press conference on Thursday evening, GBI Director Chris Hosey said the father was arrested for “knowingly allowing his son, Colt, to possess a firearm.”

According to sources, investigators believe Gray received the AR weapon used in the shooting as a Christmas gift from his father.

Colin Gray, who also appeared before Mingledorff, appeared to rock back and forth in his chair during the hearing.

If Colin Gray is found guilty on all counts, he could face a prison sentence of 180 years, Mingledorff said.

Mingledorff thanked the audience for their decency. One of the audience members held a doll in his hand during the hearing.

A motive has not yet been determined and it is not known whether the victims were targeted, investigators said.

The next court dates for Colt Gray and Colin Gray have been scheduled for December 4.
