Police officer arrested for alleged rape of 22-year-old woman in Raipur – India TV

Chhattisgarh Police on Friday, September 6, announced the arrest of a police constable of the State Police Academy for allegedly raping a 22-year-old woman in Raipur. According to police, the 26-year-old constable was arrested on the basis of a complaint filed by the victim and has been charged under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

Details of the incident

The victim's complaint states that the police officer raped her in his car on the night of September 4-5 and later in her apartment. Following the incident, the woman filed a complaint on Thursday, which led to the police officer's arrest.

Giving further details, an official said, “The police officer is posted at the State Police Academy in Chandkhuri near Raipur. After the woman filed her complaint, he was arrested under various provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including charges of rape and criminal intimidation.”

Other developments

Meanwhile, in Chhattisgarh's Narayanpur district, a Naxalite with a bounty of Rs 500,000 surrendered along with his wife.

Commenting on the incident, police said the surrendered Naxalite, identified as Dosel Salaam alias Sonva, laid down his arms along with his wife Arati on Thursday. They said while Salaam was the supply team commander of the CPI (Maoist) Kutul area committee, Arati was engaged in the Kodiliyar Jantana Sarkar school wing.

In another major development from Bijapur, police said three ultras, identified as Kudami Somlu, Lingu Semla alias Linga and Somlu Kadti, were arrested from Sarkeguda and Pegdapalli forests in Basaguda police station area. Police said explosives were allegedly found on all three ultras and further details of the case were being investigated.
