Kyle Van Noy suffers broken bone in first game of 2024 NFL season – Deseret News

Kyle Van Noy's 2024 NFL season is off to a rough start.

The Baltimore Ravens linebacker left his team's Thursday night game against the Kansas City Chiefs due to an eye injury in the second half.

NFL Network chief reporter Steve Wyche reported Friday morning that Van Noy suffered an orbital fracture and is currently working with Ravens personnel to determine how long he will be out.

“He will undergo further testing to determine how much time he will miss,” Wyche reported, citing “a source with direct knowledge of the injury.”

Van Noy joined the Ravens in late September last year after spending the first part of the season on his couch.

More than a decade into his NFL career, he had a standout year in which he recorded nine sacks and 48 quarterback pressures, as the Deseret News previously reported.

In April, the former BYU football player signed a two-year, $9 million contract to stay with the Ravens, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported at the time.

Kyle Van Noy's injury status

According to ESPN, Van Noy recorded one tackle and one QB hit before leaving Thursday's game.

He went down on the court in the opening minutes of the third quarter and was evaluated for a concussion while medical personnel examined his eye injury, according to NBC Sports.

Another BYU football graduate involved in the game, Kingsley Suamataia, had a more positive start to the season, his first in the NFL.

Suamataia started at left tackle for the Chiefs and earned some praise from the broadcast team, the Deseret News reported Thursday night.

“Was he perfect tonight? No. But it wasn't a disaster either. He's a good, athletic player. He's going to be a good left tackle in this league,” Cris Collinsworth said in the fourth quarter.

The Ravens lost Thursday’s game against the Chiefs 27-20.
