Pittsburgh Steelers starting quarterback Russell Wilson is in danger of missing Week 1’s game against the Atlanta Falcons.

Wilson spoke about his calf injury after being limited in training.

“I just felt a little tense. I just wanted to play it smart. … I hope I can be there on Sunday. … I'm doing everything I can,” Wilson said, according to Chris Adamski of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.

Wilson has a one-year contract after being released by the Denver Broncos following two poor seasons.

If the former Super Bowl champion is unable to play against the Falcons, the Steelers can rely on Justin Fields as quarterback.

They traded the former Chicago Bears first-round pick at the start of the offseason and also signed Wilson in hopes of improving the play at the position.

With Fields having a strong training camp, Steelers fans can rest assured that they have a good backup option.

The next few days will show whether the Steelers decide to use Wilson in the opener or not.

It's important to remember that the nine-time Pro Bowl participant is playing with a grudge after the last few poor seasons in Denver.

When he's healthy, fans can see a hungry and motivated Wilson, like the one who had a magical decade with the Seattle Seahawks.

Pittsburgh is hoping for another successful season under head coach Mike Tomlin and with the new additions of Wilson and Fields, this season could be a big one in the Steel City.
