Is the 6th season of “Prison Break” still coming? This is how the cult series is supposed to continue – Series News

“Prison Break” consists of five seasons, all of which recently found their way onto Netflix. And it will probably stay that way. After season 6 was announced in the meantime, a reboot is now to be released instead.

20. Television

Launched in 2005 as a new series sensation, “Prison Break” still enjoys cult status today. The former TV hit is now in demand on Netflix, both from viewers who want to finally catch up on the 90 episodes and from those who want to experience the nerve-racking escape story of the brothers Michael (Wentworth Miller) and Lincoln (Dominic Purcell) once again.

And now all the more people are asking themselves what the future holds for the series. Having actually ended in 2009 after season 4, “Prison Break” returned eight years later for a nine-part fifth season with many of the original stars – and it was so successful that it was soon A sixth season was also planned. However, it ultimately came to nothingafter both the US broadcaster Fox and some of the stars (especially Michael actor Wentworth Miller) no longer seemed particularly keen on continuing the story.

“Prison Break” remake instead of season 6

A final line seemed to have been drawn under these plans in November 2023 – but that did not mean that the brand was to be buried altogether. Quite the opposite: Instead, a brand new “Prison break“-series, which will take place in the same world as the original series, but will focus on other characters. In such a reboot, at least guest appearances by one or two of the original stars would not be ruled out.

The main person responsible for the project is “Mayans MC” showrunner Elgin James, who has already proven with his “Sons Of Anarchy” spin-off that he knows how to tell dirty and exciting underworld stories with complex characters. Original series creator Paul Scheuring is involved as executive producer.

However, it has been almost a year since the announcement of the new “Prison Break” series, and there has been no news in the meantime. So it remains to be seen whether it will actually happen. At least there has been no official cancellation, so we can still hope that the last word on “Prison Break” has not yet been spoken.
