Murder investigation launched after woman found with numerous wounds in Bury

A murder investigation has been launched after a woman was found with numerous injuries in Bury, Greater Manchester, police said.

Police were called to an incident on Walnut Avenue around 10:30 p.m. on Friday where a 35-year-old woman was found with numerous injuries.

Shortly after emergency services arrived, her death was confirmed at the scene of the accident, Greater Manchester Police said.

While no arrests were made, officers identified a suspect they believe was involved in the incident, police added.

The suspect is believed to pose no threat to the public and officers are not currently looking for anyone else in connection with the death, police said.

The woman’s next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specialist officials.

The crime scene remains on site and officers will be present in the community in the coming days to reassure residents and offer assistance, police added.

Detective Inspector Matthew Hamer, of Greater Manchester Police's Major Incident Team, said: “I know that incidents of this nature cause shock and dismay among the public, but I want members of the public to know that we are working to put together a timeline of last night's events and the exact circumstances of what happened.”

“While we have now identified a suspect, we do not believe he poses a significant threat and we are not currently looking for anyone else.

“However, we are continuing to examine all lines of investigation and will be on site in the next few days.

“There will be additional officers on site and I would encourage you to speak to them if you have any concerns or worries.”
