Police in Kondele, Kisumu County arrest two suspects who attempted to pay bribes amounting to Ksh179,000 to investigators from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to cover up a car theft.

Eugene Kiprop Kipchirchir, 38, and Hillary Kiplangat Kibet, 40, are said to have offered the above mentioned amount to the Kondele DCI officers to protect one Rashid Oyondi Nyanuba.

“The long arm of the law has caught two persons red-handed as they attempted to bribe DCI officers with a hefty bribe of Sh179,000 to turn a blind eye to a notorious car theft suspect,” the DCI said in a statement on Saturday.

“These brazen perpetrators spun a web of lies, claiming they had crucial information about a known fugitive who was involved in a car theft.”

After their arrest and questioning, the two led investigators to a restaurant in the city, where the car theft suspect was finally cornered.

“During the ensuing interrogation, the schemers revealed everything, which prompted the officers to swoop in a parking lot at Dondez Restaurant and catch the prime suspect, Rashid Oyondi Nyanuba, who was hiding in an Isuzu Double Cab with registration number KAW 092Y,” the DCI said.

The suspects are currently detained at Kondele Police Station awaiting arraignment.
