The accident occurred early Sunday at the intersection of US 192 and Dairy Road in West Melbourne.

The impact caused the 34-year-old motorcyclist's helmet to be ripped off his head, police said.

Tate is said to have driven on and left the man “in the middle of the road with life-threatening injuries” without calling 911.

Tate was seen driving away from the crime scene and into a parking lot “to hide.”
