Deseret News Photos of the Week – Deseret News

With fall just around the corner and most school districts back in session, it was nice to welcome both college football and high school sports back to the coverage areas of Deseret News photojournalists.

But as we celebrate the fun and excitement of sports, Labor Day festivities, a new school library and new pickleball courts, the news of the tragic shooting of a young mother and her three children in West Haven is on our hearts.

Photographing neighbors, friends and even strangers bringing flowers and gifts to a makeshift memorial like the one on the family's porch shows how resilient Utah communities can be.

As photojournalists, it is our job to visually tell the stories of our communities, both the hard and painful ones and the optimistic moments and rays of light in the dark clouds of this world.

Here is a look back at our most impressive pictures of the last seven days.
