No. 1 Georgia comes through the season opener without major injury problems

ATHENS, Ga. (AP) — Georgia Bulldogs defensive star Mykel Williams suffered a left ankle injury in the season-opening win over Clemson, but he doesn't expect it to lead to long-term problems, coach Kirby Smart said Monday.

Smart described the injury as a grade-II sprain and said Williams is questionable for Saturday's home opener, when the No. 1 Bulldogs face FBS school Tennessee Tech.

Williams, an edge rusher, had two tackles for losses before limping off the field in the third quarter after an illegal block below the waist.

“He's stable,” Smart said. “He'll be week to week. This week it's probably questionable, but it won't be permanent ankle damage.”

The Bulldogs also lost defensive tackle Warren Brinson to a bruised ankle in the first quarter. Smart said the injury was not serious and the Bulldogs are confident he can play against Tennessee Tech.

Nickelback Joenel Aguero could also be back after missing the Clemson game with a strained muscle. He was able to take part in a walk-through on Monday morning.

Receiver Dillon Bell should be ready to play again after struggling with cramps in the game against Clemson.
