Unleashed was formed in Stockholm in November 1989, from the ashes of pioneering death metal band Nihilist. There have been very few line-up changes over the years. Today, the band consists of Johnny Hedlund (bass and vocals), Fredrik Folkare (lead guitar), Anders Schultz (drums) and Tomas Måsgard (rhythm guitar). Unleashed see themselves primarily as a live act. Musically, the band stays true to their roots and continues to develop within their own musical style. Unleashed's lyrics are largely about Viking traditions and values. According to the band, Unleashed strives to be “the top Vikings of Swedish death metal”. They want to “lead and define the future of Viking death metal”.
