‘Bear patiently…’: TMC MP Jawhar Sircar resigns over Kolkata doctor’s rape and murder, writes to Mamata

NEW DELHI: TMC MP Jawhar Sircar on Sunday wrote to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee informing about his decision to Resignation from the Rajya Sabha And Leaving politics for the rape and murder of a doctor in Calcutta.
Urging Mamata to do “something” to save the state, Sircar wrote: “While I sincerely thank you for giving me such a great opportunity as an MP in the Rajya Sabha to represent the problems of West Bengal, I must inform you that I have decided to resign from Parliament and also from politics altogether.”
“I have been suffering patiently for a month since the horrific incident at RG Kar Hospital and was hoping that you would take direct action against the agitating junior doctors in the old Mamata Banerjee style. That has not happened and whatever punitive action the government takes now is too little and comes far too late. I think normalcy could have been restored in this state much earlier if the faction of corrupt doctors had been crushed and those guilty of improper administrative action had been punished immediately after the scandalous incident,” he added.
The TMC government is under fire after a doctor-in-training was raped and murdered at Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, leading to the arrest of a Kolkata Police volunteer and triggering widespread protests by doctors and citizens.
The Calcutta High Court then directed the CBI to investigate both the murder and the financial irregularities at the facility.
