She herself did not expect this: At the Women's Trial International in Kramolin, Magdalena Hubner came first twice.

Fürstenfeldbruck – Before stepping onto the winner's podium, Magdalena Hübner held her hands in front of her face in disbelief. But when the German national anthem was played, the 14-year-old motorsport athlete from TuS Fürstenfeldbruck slowly realized what she had achieved. In her very first international competition – the Women's Trial International in Kramolin (Czech Republic) – the student from Hilgertshausen (Dachau district) promptly came first. She proved that this was no coincidence the next day at the second competition in Kramolin – Magdalena Hübner was once again at the top of the winner's podium, with a bottle of sparkling wine and a winner's trophy. And the student's success is still to come.

The reward is a trip to the European Championship

The 14-year-old was not the favorite to compete against her opponents from Poland. Two weeks earlier, the TuS athlete had only come second in Großheubach in Lower Franconia. But in the Czech Republic, she was in a class of her own – despite a little stage fright. “I was perhaps a little more nervous than usual because it was my first time taking part,” says Magdalena Hübner. “And before you know it, you're on the winner's podium.”

It was the first winner's trophy that the motorsport athlete has won in her young career on the international stage. As a reward, she is now heading to the finals of the European Championship. “This season I worked with excellent trainers at the Bavarian squad training sessions of the Bavarian Motorsport Association and the Thoma Trial Team and I felt very good,” the Hilgerthausen native reveals her secret of success. “So far, things have been going really well and every weekend it's been a little better and the place on the winner's podium is amazing,” says the 14-year-old happily. “That feels good.” Especially at the highlight with the international field of drivers and flair, a special track.”

Good support at TuS Fürstenfeldbruck

The foundation for success was also laid at their club, TuS Fürstenfeldbruck. A well-functioning youth development program forms the basis for later top performances in sport and is therefore seen as one of the most important tasks at TuS Fürstenfeldbruck, explains Andreas Reinshagen, 2nd head of the trial sports division. The children and young people ride almost exclusively on electrically powered motorcycles, and Hubner, too, stood on the footrests of an “e-trial motorcycle” made by Oset at the age of four.

What is the process?

Trial competitions or trials are tests of skill in difficult terrain, where neither the course boundaries nor markings may be touched. The focus of motorcycle trials – there are also competitions for cars, trucks or bicycles – is on controlling the machine in the special tests known as “sections”. The driving time plays a subordinate role, although the maximum driving time is set in order to keep an event under control. Trial motorcycles are used. The machines have a lot of ground clearance, low weight, a large steering angle and engines that react to the slightest turn of the throttle. The tires are an important factor; only the right tires in combination with an air pressure adapted to the section ensure the necessary propulsion.

The aim is Collect as few points as possible. Competitions consist of several rounds, usually with seven or eight sections. There are also competitions with three rounds each with ten sections. Each participant receives a scorecard in each round on which their penalty points are recorded: putting your foot down results in one penalty point. But no matter how often you make this mistake, you will receive a maximum of three penalty points in total. Falling, rolling backwards or turning off the engine result in five penalty points.

In addition, the Trial Sport department has been awarded the German Motorsport Association (DMSB)'s Innovation Fund this year. This is a grant for innovative clubs in the field of youth development and sustainability. Fürstenfeldbruck was one of 16 nationwide funding projects in the field of youth work.

“The club can only control success to a limited extent,” says Reinshagen. Targeted club structures can contribute to this. “However, for optimal youth development in the region, the necessary resources are also needed, which also determine success or failure,” says the second division manager. But with the innovation fund, they have these and are now a flagship project for sports clubs in the region and beyond. “Magdalena's success confirms this impressively,” says Reinshagen.
