Queen Elizabeth's very last balcony appearance with the royal family | Royal | News

Just a few months before her death, Queen Elizabeth II appeared for the last time on the famous balcony of Buckingham Palace with some of her closest family members.

The late Queen, who passed away on September 8, 2022, seemed overwhelmed by the public's love as she stepped out onto the balcony overlooking The Mall for the last time on June 5, 2022, as part of her Platinum Jubilee celebrations.

Although she appeared somewhat frail and carried a walking stick, the late Queen beamed as she was surrounded by her loved ones, including the then Prince of Wales, Camilla, Prince William, Princess Kate and their three children.

The late Queen, dressed in bright green, is believed to have been feeling unwell in the lead up to her balcony appearance, but Charles “convinced” her to come out to see the public and the love she felt for them. As she waved to the crowd, she appeared happy but emotional.

Her great-grandson Prince George appeared to beam with pride as she watched the hundreds of thousands of people lined up on the Mall, hoping to catch a glimpse of the monarch during the celebrations for her 70th anniversary.

It was the last time she appeared on the balcony at Balmoral before her death.

Queen Elizabeth and King Charles on the balcony

Queen Elizabeth and the then Prince of Wales made one of their last public appearances together on the balcony of the celebrations for the late Queen's Platinum Jubilee.

At the time, a source told the Daily Mail: “The Queen had only decided she would travel to London about three hours before her balcony appearance.”

“She didn’t feel brilliant, but the [former] The Prince of Wales had called her and told her [that] she really should come if she could.”

He reportedly told her how many people were waiting to see her, with thousands lining the Mall in front of the palace.
