Saudi Arabia: 2 expats arrested for murdering their wives

The attacker is a nurse at a hospital in Mecca where his Egyptian wife also worked.

The murder took place in a residence intended for hospital staff of various nationalities, the Saudi news portal Sabq reported, citing health sources.

The murder sent shockwaves among hospital staff and the healthcare community in Mecca, the report said.

In another incident, police in Riyadh arrested another foreigner for fatally attacking his wife following a dispute between the couple.

A city police spokesman said the man, a Sudanese national, had been arrested for the murder of his wife, who was also a Sudanese citizen.

Saudi Arabia, a country of around 32.2 million people, is home to a large community of expatriate workers.

Murder is punishable by death in the kingdom.

A Saudi citizen was executed in Riyadh on Saturday. He was convicted of murdering a fellow countryman during a dispute between them, the Interior Ministry said. He was arrested.

After the investigation, he was transferred to a competent court, which found him guilty and sentenced him to death, the ministry said in a statement.

The ruling was later confirmed by appeal and supreme courts and approved by a royal decree, making it final.

It was not clear when exactly the murder occurred.
