Second place for Marc Scott from Northallerton at the Great North Run

The 30-year-old, who became the second Briton to win the famous race in 2021 since 1985, achieved an impressive time of 1:01:11 in the men's elite race behind winner Abel Kipchumba.

Scott, who recently returned to the UK from the US and gave birth to his son Albie four months ago, was the only Briton to finish in the top five in the 2024 race, ahead of Sondre Moen in third, Filmo Tesfu in fourth and Evans Chebet in fifth.

The race today (September 8) will be the former Northallerton School and Sixth Form College pupil's first return to Tyneside since his memorable win in 2021.

He had previously told The Northern Echo that he “doesn't care” about the times at the 2024 Great North Run: “Obviously I just want to do well and try to win the race. If times come out of that, that's great; if not, it doesn't matter.”

Here are the five best results of the men’s elite:

  1. Abel Kipchumba – 59:52
  2. Marc Scott – 1:01:11
  3. Sondre Moen – 1:01:25
  4. Filmon Tesfu – 1:02:15
  5. Evans Chebet – 1:02:31
