Preston train station was cordoned off on Saturday evening after a police officer was attacked.




A man in his 50s was arrested at the scene of the unprovoked attack; according to Blog Preston, the British Transport Police officer was attacked with a knife.

A railway employee was also attacked and injured in the incident.

The police officer and railway staff say their injuries are life-threatening. According to Blog Preston, the officer was stabbed in the neck.

Preston police said on Saturday evening that the attack was being treated as an isolated incident.

Superintendent Dave Rams said: “I would like to reassure the public that a man in his 50s has been arrested and we are not currently seeking anyone else in connection with this.

“Our investigations are well underway and the public will notice an increased police presence at the station as a result. I urge anyone with information who has not already come forward to contact BTP by texting 61016 or calling 0800 405040 quoting reference number 729 of September 8.”

The attack occurred as hundreds of people flocked to Moor Park station to catch trains following the BBC Radio 2 In The Park programme.
