Man arrested after accident outside house in Lowestoft

Laura Wilson, 46, has lived in St. Peter's Street in the Suffolk town since 2008.

In August 2014, she was five months pregnant and sleeping on the sofa in her living room when a car collided with the wall of her front garden at around 1 a.m.

Bricks and debris flew through her bay window, but miraculously she was unharmed and no arrests were made.

However, this caused £10,000 in damage and she had to move out for nine weeks.

She started a petition calling for traffic calming measures after similar incidents occurred on the street and collected 2,000 signatures.

Despite calls for speed cameras, the end result was that reflector posts in front of her house indicated a curve.

Fast forward to September 2024: On Friday evening, Mrs. Wilson came home at 8:30 p.m. and went into her back room.

She said: “At around 8.50pm a car crashed into the wall of my front garden, which took the initial impact. There was also damage to the garden walls of the properties on both sides.”

“Fortunately, there was no damage to my house this time and my bay window is now fitted with safety glass.

“I'm glad that my children Daisy, with whom I was pregnant in 2014, and Oscar weren't there at the time.”

Suffolk Police arrived at the scene and arrested the male driver of the grey Suzuki, who suffered no injuries.

He was suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol and it is currently unknown whether charges have been filed against him.

The road was closed while the vehicle was recovered and a Lowestoft South fire crew and emergency services were also on site.

Ms Wilson added: “I have contacted my insurance company and local councillors who are liaising with Suffolk Highways to try and do something about the situation.

“I looked at old photos from 2014 and it seems like 'Groundhog Day'.”
