Tyreek Hill was arrested and handcuffed by police just hours before the start of the NFL season

Tyreek Hill was briefly arrested and handcuffed by police for a “traffic incident” a few hours before the start of the NFL season.

The Miami Dolphins wide receiver was stopped by police outside the team's Hard Rock Stadium and later released, the team said in a statement.

A video on social media showed Hill being handcuffed after several police officers forced him to the ground on the side of the road.

According to the Dolphins, several of Hill's teammates saw the incident and offered to help. Hill was lying face down on the ground with his hands behind his back.

The Dolphins said Hill, one of the NFL's top wide receivers, will play in the team's season opener against the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday after his release.

“This morning, WR Tyreek Hill was stopped and briefly detained by police for a traffic accident approximately one block from the stadium,” the Dolphins said.

“He has since been released. Several teammates saw the incident and stopped to offer help.

“Tyreek and all other players involved have arrived safely at the stadium and will be available for today's game.”

ESPN reported that the 30-year-old got into an argument with the police and was charged with “reckless driving.”

Hill's agent Drew Rosenhaus said the manner of Hill's arrest was “completely unnecessary” and called it a “heartbreaking situation.”

He confirmed that his client was fine and would play against the Jaguars.
