15-year-old boy dies from beauty spot in Wigan

Emergency services were called to Scotman's Flash yesterday (Saturday 9 September) at around 3pm. Members of the public attempted to rescue him from the water, but unfortunately he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officials said they believe there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the boy's death and are currently assisting the boy's family.

Scotsman's Flash describes itself as a watersports activity centre that “offers activities/courses for individuals, groups and schools”.

In a post on social media, Scotman's Flash also confirmed the boy's death.

A spokesman said: “We are deeply saddened by the tragic death of a young man in this morning's explosion.

“Our staff noticed the young man in the water and tried to rescue him, but unfortunately they were unsuccessful. We would like to thank them for their courage and determination.

“Our thoughts are with the young man’s family and friends at this incredibly difficult time.”

A Greater Manchester Police spokesman said: “At around 3pm yesterday (Saturday 7 September 2024), officers were called to reports of a 15-year-old boy lying in the water at Scotman's Flash in Wigan.

“He was rescued from the water by citizens, but unfortunately died despite the efforts of the emergency services.

“There are believed to be no suspicious circumstances and his family is currently being assisted by specialist officers.”
