The pretty city is called the “Little Paris” of Eastern Europe, but is cheaper | World | News

Paris is famous for so many things. Known as the world capital of romance, the city attracts millions of tourists each year for everything from its stunning architecture to its Parisian gourmet delights.

It's not as well known as the City of Lights, but if you're looking for a similar atmosphere without the hefty cost, then Bucharest, the capital of Romania, might be just the thing for you.

Often referred to as the “Little Paris of the East,” the city has a distinctly French influence in its architecture and there is plenty to do for couples.

The huge metropolis with around two million inhabitants lies on the Dâmbovița River in southeastern Romania and is the eighth largest city in the European Union.

Getting around is also easy thanks to four subway lines and a modern bus network.

Museums that should be at the top of your Bucharest visitor list include the Village Museum, the Romanian Athenaeum and the Peasant Museum.

And one place you absolutely must visit is the Palace of Parliament, the second largest administrative building in the world after the Pentagon.

After all the sightseeing, you can also sit back and relax, for example with a visit to the thermal baths.

It features saunas, mineral pools and water slides, as well as an indoor botanical garden.

The attractive old town offers numerous bars, restaurants and cafés for a romantic short break.

Getting there is easy – including with the Hungarian budget airline Wizz Air from Leeds-Bradford Airport to the Romanian capital. Travel bloggers seem to love the place. Alexx from findingalexx.com was thrilled.

She wrote: “Romania's enchanting capital offers a tantalizing combination of Parisian-style boulevards, hearty traditional cuisine and historical significance at a fantastically affordable price. It's one of the best city breaks in Europe in terms of value for money!”

Kate from www.adventurouskate.com agrees, saying: “Bucharest is a fantastic city.

“Bucharest is like Berlin. Alternative and dark with an epic nightlife. Bucharest is like Paris. Grand and elegant and full of style.

“Bucharest is like Budapest. Weather-beaten, proud and cultured.”

She added: “And Bucharest is a very affordable European city. It has good flight connections, the food is delicious and the people are just lovely.”
