Woman charged with murder after man killed in Kaitaia

A 29-year-old woman has been charged with murder for killing a man in Northland over the weekend.

Detective Inspector Rhys Johnson said police were called to Kaitaia Hospital shortly before midnight on Saturday when a seriously injured man was being dumped in a vehicle.

He died later.

“Police have conducted a number of investigations into the circumstances of the man's death and arrested a woman last night,” Johnson said.

Johnson said the victim and the woman arrested knew each other.

“Therefore, we are not currently looking for anyone else in this matter.”

Police presence would remain in the area.

“While this investigation centres on a tragic incident, we are pleased that we were able to bring a swift resolution to the victim’s grieving whānau.”

The woman was due to appear in Kaitaia District Court on Monday.
