Maher jokes that Taylor Swift didn't sit next to Brittany Mahomes at the Chiefs game because her NFL wife liked Trump posts

Bill Maher, host of HBO's “Real Time,” joked that pop megastar Taylor Swift did not sit next to Brittany Mahomes at the Kansas City Chiefs game this week because Mahomes had recently shown his support for some of former President Trump's policies online.

Maher speculated that the two had a disagreement about Trump that led them to sit in different suites during the last NFL game. The host noticed this after saying he remembered them sitting together at almost every game last season.

“Don’t you think the partisanship has gone too far?” Maher asked, referring to a possible change in the seating arrangement.

“Real Time” host Bill Maher speculated that Taylor Swift and Brittany Mahomes did not sit next to each other at the last Kansas City Chiefs game because Mahomes had expressed his support for former President Trump in recent posts.

Although Maher's comment appeared to be more comedic in nature, it followed several weeks of critical backlash against Mahomes – the wife of Chiefs star quarterback Patrick Mahomes – after she liked a social media post by Trump.

Mahomes liked an Instagram post by Trump on August 13 outlining the “2024 GOP platform,” sparking a wave of backlash from users, but the Sports Illustrated model defended herself.

In her own Instagram post, she wrote: “I mean, honestly, to be a hater as an adult, you have to have deep-rooted childhood issues that you don't want to heal. There's no reason your brain is fully developed and you hate when others are doing well.”

Days later, she seemed to allude to the incident in another post, writing: “Contrary to the tone of the world today… you can disagree with someone and still love them. You can have different views and still be kind. Read that again!”

Mahomes also liked a social media comment that read “TRUMP-VANCE 2024.”

Even Trump noted Mahomes' support for his post and recently thanked her on Truth Social, writing, “I want to thank the wonderful Brittany Mahomes for defending me so vigorously, and for MAGA being the largest and most powerful political movement in the history of our now failing country.”

Taylor Swift looks on from the upper level during an NFL football game between the Baltimore Ravens and the Kansas City Chiefs at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium on September 5, 2024 in Kansas City, California.

The NFL wife is also known for her close relationship with Swift, who is currently dating Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce. The two were often spotted sharing suites at Chiefs games last season.

There was speculation that the new seating arrangement could be a reflection of political differences between the women, as Swift has been a strong critic of Trump in the past.

Maher couldn't resist the gossip.

“The NFL season started yesterday. In the past, Taylor Swift has always been in the same box as Brittany Mahomes. And now they can't be in the same box,” he said during his Friday show, adding, “I guess because Brittany liked some of Trump's tweets. And Taylor's tweets for Kamala.”

Swift has not endorsed either candidate ahead of the presidential election in November.
