Police will consider request to set up police outpost in Pos Kuala Mu, says state police chief

IPOH: Police will investigate a request from the Orang Asli community in Pos Kuala Mu to set up a police hut or outpost following the murder of a 10-year-old Orang Asli girl there last month.

Perak police chief Comm Datuk Azizi Mat Aris said they would review the request with the Orang Asli Development Department and the local community.

“We must take into account the population and the needs of the region and look at the situation from all angles,” he said on Monday (September 9) at a press conference following the monthly meeting at the headquarters of the state police contingent.

Comm Azizi was approached by local Orang Asli for comment on the request, who pointed out that the nearest police station is about 60 km away, making it difficult for locals and tourists to file a report.

He said a police post would be set up at the Orang Asli One-Stop Centre in Bawong, about 38 kilometres from their settlement.

“Construction is complete, but not yet in operation.

“There are certain procedures required to operate a police outpost,” he said.

Last month, the Orang Asli settlement was rocked by the murder of Nuraina Humaira Rosli, whose body was found near a swampy area after she had been reported missing several days earlier.

The case was initially classified as sudden death before an autopsy revealed signs of injuries to her neck.

The police also did not rule out that the victim was raped before his murder.

A 17-year-old boy was charged with the murder of Nuraina Humaira in a local court in Sungai Siput.

Furthermore, Comm Azizi said that there had been many rape cases in the state committed by persons who were either family members or acquaintances of the victims.

He advised the public to always be vigilant, as trusting relationships can sometimes lead to betrayal and danger.
