More than 4,800 outstanding arrest warrants in Rhineland-Palatinate

Some arrest warrants in the state have not yet been executed – many of them are for unpaid fines. How many are there for manslaughter, murder or sexual offenses?

Mainz (dpa/lrs) – In Rhineland-Palatinate There are currently 4,849 arrest warrants that have not been executed. A large number of these cases involve so-called enforcement arrest warrants for unpaid fines or penalties, as the Rhineland-Palatinate Ministry of the Interior announced in response to a request from the German Press Agency. In these cases, an arrest can be averted by making a payment.

According to the Interior Ministry, as of September 4, there were 107 outstanding arrest warrants for sexual offenses, 51 for manslaughter and 41 for murder. The Interior Ministry says that there are a variety of reasons why arrest warrants are not being executed. People who are deported or leave the country after being released early are still put up as wanted. This means that they can be recognized immediately if they re-enter the country.

At the beginning of September 2023, the Rhineland-Palatinate Interior Ministry had counted 3,675 outstanding arrest warrants. In most cases, these were offenses such as fraud, theft, driving without a license and drunk driving, Interior Minister Michael Ebling (SPD) said in response to a parliamentary question from the AfD parliamentary group in Mainz.
