A convicted mafia hitman already serving a life sentence received an additional 25 years on Friday for the 2018 murder of notorious Boston gangster James “Whitey” Bulger. The New York Times reports.

Fotios Geas, 57, was the last of three men convicted for his role in the 2018 murder of James (Whitey) Bulger.

Bulger was brutally beaten to death in his cell less than 12 hours after being transferred to the federal prison in Bruceton Mills, West Virginia. Prosecutors said Geas delivered the fatal blows while two other inmates stood guard.

Bulger, who led the predominantly Irish gang in Boston in the 1970s and 1980s, was also an informant, according to the FBI, providing information on his gang's main rival. However, Bulger vehemently denied ever having worked with the government.

Prosecutors said Geas repeatedly struck Bulger with a lock attached to his belt. Defense attorneys disputed that account, claiming Geas struck Bulger with his fist instead.

About a month ago, Paul J. DeCologero, a Massachusetts mobster already serving a 25-year prison sentence, was sentenced to an additional four years in prison for his role in the attack, serving as a lookout.

Another inmate, Sean McKinnon, was sentenced to time already served after prosecutors dropped a more serious charge of conspiracy to commit murder.
