Germans killed disabled daughter - trial in Switzerland

A German couple says they killed their disabled daughter in Switzerland. The trial against them has now begun. The grandmother is also accused.

Bremgarten (dpa) – A German couple say they killed their disabled three-year-old child in Switzerland. The public prosecutor has charged them with murder. At the start of the trial in Bremgarten in the canton of Aargau on the German border, the mother said when asked by the judge that she would do it again, as reporters from the newspaper “Blick” reported from the courtroom.

The girl was born with a cerebral disease and needed intensive care. According to the mother, she was in constant pain. She and her boyfriend had therefore decided to “put the child to rest”. The family lived in Hägglingen, a good 25 kilometers south of Waldshut-Tiengen in the Waldshut district of Baden-Württemberg.

Ecstasy in the porridge

They had mixed the drug ecstasy into the child's porridge. Later, the father pressed a cloth over the child's face in the mother's arms until it stopped breathing. She and her boyfriend then put the child in bed and cried. The family called emergency services the next morning, reporting that the child was lifeless in bed.

In addition to the mother and her friend, the grandmother is also accused of aiding and abetting. The couple is still together, the mother reported. All three appeared composed in the courtroom, reported “Blick”. The verdict is expected to be handed down on Friday. The couple face up to 18 years in prison.
