Jillian Branciforte, a teacher from Greece, NY, was killed in a car accident

A Greece Central School District teacher was killed in a car crash Friday, according to a statement released by the school district Saturday.

Jillian Branciforte, an English as a Second Language teacher at Greece Olympia School, died in the crash just two days after the first day of school at Greece Olympia School.

“This loss affects not only Olympia, but the entire district, as Jillian’s impact extended to multiple schools,” said Laurel Heiden, the district’s communications director.

The district did not release any further details about the accident and asked that the school community's privacy be respected during this difficult time.

Branciforte's LinkedIn profile shows that she graduated from Hilton High School, earned her bachelor's degree in Spanish from St. John Fisher University, and completed her master's degree in education from Nazareth College.

The Hilton Central School District expressed its condolences on Facebook.

“The entire Hilton community mourns the loss of 2013 Hilton alumna Jillian Branciforte,” the post said. “Our sincere condolences to all who knew and loved her.”

Many who knew Branciforte expressed their sadness and affection for her in the comments section of the post.

Alexandra Braggins Martin wrote: “My heart sank. Jill was one of my best friends in high school. This is the biggest tragedy. I send all my love to her family and friends. A beautiful soul was taken far too soon. There are no other words.”

Amy Gallton added: “She was one of a kind. I send love and prayers to all who love her.”

Some students also expressed their sadness on Facebook. One wrote: “Rest in peace, Ms. Branciforte, we will miss you.”

The Greece School District said its Trauma, Illness and Grief team will be available in the coming days to support students and staff.
