Beetlejuice hit theaters Friday and reunites original stars Winona Ryder, Catherine O'Hara and Michael Keaton with many new faces, including Jenna Ortega and Blackburn-born Amy Nuttall.

The film grossed an impressive £110 million at the box office worldwide over the weekend, with the UK taking the most overseas at £7.33 million.

The 42-year-old recently joined the cast for the premiere of the film, which sees Oscar-nominated Keaton reprise the title role in the visually stunning sequel to director Tim Burton's 1988 horror comedy.

A family tragedy leads Delia Deetz (O'Hara), daughter Lydia (Ryder) and rebellious teenage granddaughter Astrid (Ortega) to return to the close-knit community of Winter River.

From the moment the clan descends, familial tensions are evident. Astrid discovers the model of the city in the attic and accidentally opens a portal to the afterlife by summoning Beetlejuice (Keaton) three times. The malevolent demon jumps between worlds, wreaking havoc wherever he goes.

Amy, also known from “Mr. Bates vs. the Post Office,” “Downton Abbey” and “Emmerdale,” plays Jane Butterfield – the daughter of Jane in the original “Beetlejuice” film.

Before the film's release, director Tim Burton said, “I tried to treat this film in the spirit of the first film, where we had a script but there was a lot of improvisation.

“I'm very fortunate to work with people like Michael and Catherine who are very good at improvising. So we just tried to work in that spirit. We shot quickly and all the actors did their part. They really took it from the page and made it something really special.”
