Hyderabad: In an incident that raises questions about the state's handling of the health crisis across districts where viral fever, dengue and other diseases are on the rise, a man from Nizamabad, who had come home on leave and fell ill after returning to his job in Saudi Arabia, died.

According to his relatives, Mohammed Iftikhar Hyder (62), a native of Nizamabad who was working in Dammam, had recently come home for vacation. However, during his vacation, he fell ill and was reportedly suffering from a viral fever. After undergoing treatment in Nizamabad, he returned to Saudi Arabia last week. However, his health deteriorated again and he was preparing to travel to India again shortly for treatment. He succumbed to his illness on Sunday.

Relatives have claimed that the protracted illness that eventually led to his death was due to a lack of diagnosis of his illness and improper treatment in his native Nizamabad. Hyder was buried in Saudi Arabia's Eastern Province on Monday in the presence of his only son, Abrar Hyder.

They pointed out that the state has reported a rise in upper respiratory infections in particular in recent weeks, raising fears of flu, viral fever and also pneumonia. However, no health emergency has been declared nor have strict measures been taken to prevent the spread of fever, even as government hospitals have seen a huge rush as many patients have come for treatment of various diseases, including dengue.
