Accident between BMW driver and pedestrian in Scarborough, man arrested

North Yorkshire Police said the driver of a black BMW X5, a 41-year-old man, was involved in the crash with the pedestrian, a man in his 70s.

They added that the incident occurred on Castle Road in Scarborough at around 1.15pm on Sunday 8 September, near the junction with Regent Street.

The pedestrian was taken to hospital by ambulance, where his condition remains serious.

The BMW driver was arrested as part of the police investigation into the accident. He was later released on bail while the investigation is ongoing.

“The road was closed until 7 p.m. while we investigated the scene of the accident and recovered the vehicle involved,” a spokesman said.

“We are asking anyone who witnessed the collision, anyone who may have seen the vehicle or pedestrian prior to the collision, or anyone who has relevant dashcam footage to contact us.”
