Darts: Robert Thornton wins the Double Trouble Week of the MODUS Super Series

Robert Thornton won the title on Saturday evening in a special week of the MODUS Super Series. In a special theme week, the participants also had to start all legs with a double.

Twelve participants started the Double Trouble Week. The best six players from the first five days of play met on Saturday, divided into two pools, on the final night.

Thornton started the final night in Group A. Thorn lost his first match against Ted Evetts (3-2), but won his second group match against Neil Duff (3-1). Evetts won the mutual duel with Duff (3-0) and moved into the semi-finals as number one.

Richie Burnett was the pool winner in Group B. The Welshman beat Adam Lipscombe (3-1) and Andreas Harrysson (3-1), with Harrysson being too strong for Lipscombe with a 3-0 win.

Evetts beat Harrysson 3-0 in the first semi-final before Thornton beat Burnett 3-1 in the second. This was the second time Evetts and Thornton had faced each other that night. This time it was Thornton who came out on top, with the Scot securing the title in Portsmouth with a 3-2 victory over Super Ted.

The ninth season of the MODUS Super Series begins on Monday, September 9. Each cycle lasts thirteen weeks. The twelve weekly winners will then compete in the thirteenth week of play in the “Champions Week”. The winner of the Champions Week will receive prize money of £25,000.
