Yazoo County is one of 13 counties affected by defective firefighting equipment

Yazoo County was one of 13 counties in the state where businesses may have been affected by a husband and wife accused of installing defective and used fire suppression systems in commercial kitchens.

Daniel and Sherri Finnegan of Finnegan's Fire Safety Equipment were arrested last week in Smith County. They face more than 50 charges in 13 counties, including Yazoo County, for operating fire suppression systems that were not working and/or had not been tested.

According to WLBT, Daniel Finnegan is also accused of “labeling fire extinguishers without checking them and repainting and adding parts to used fire extinguishers and selling them as new.”

The Finnegans' company was based in Pelahatchie and was not registered with the State Department, the news report said.

The State Fire Marshal's Office is asking any local businesses that have worked with Finnegan's Fire Safety Equipment to call the office at 601-359-1061.
