Two people accused of stealing equipment in Clay County

CLAY COUNTY, Minn. (Valley News Live) – Two people were arrested after stealing a trailer and generator in Clay County Sunday morning, according to police.

Jason Austin, 37, of Pelican Rapids, Minnesota, and Joshua Moen, 44, of Crosby, Minnesota, are charged with theft and trespassing.

On September 8th at 8:22 a.m., Clay County officials were called to the area of ​​90th Avenue and 170th North for a report of the theft of a trailer and generator.

Upon arrival, officers learned that the generator was used to power an irrigation system and was on a trailer. Officers also learned that the two pieces were worth $45,000.

Officials said that during the search for the vehicle, the generator was found in a swampy area. The vehicle was found in the same area.

Officers established a security checkpoint and began searching for the suspects. They spotted Austin on a gravel road and arrested him.

Later that evening, a Minnesota State Trooper was patrolling Highway 9 and 90th Avenue North and found Moen walking along the road.

The officer stated that Moen was sweating heavily, was dirty, and was not carrying any personal items. Moen was positively identified and taken into custody.

Both Austin and Moen are being held at the Clay County Correctional Center.
