Frankfurt. “Elbow” by Asli Özarslan based on the novel of the same name by Fatma Aydemir receives the unfunded “Frankfurt Book Fair Prize for the best adaptation” at the gala for 35th Hessian Film and Cinema AwardThis means that the book fair is once again a partner of the prize, which was once held in Frankfurt and on the Friday of the book fair due to the cooperation. Nominated in the feature film are “Cuckoo” by Tilman Singer, “Klandestin” by Angelina Maccarone and “Shahid” by Narges Kalhor, The jury awarded “Exile Never Ends” by Bahar Bektas, “Sisterqueens” by Clara Stella Hüneke and “Watching You – The World of Palantir and Alex Karp” by Klaus Stern into the final. Other categories are college film, short film and screenplay award.

In order not to have to save on prize money, the gala has been decided not to be organized by an agency for the second time. The gala is being hosted by Hessen Film und Medien GmbH, the state's film funding agency. The host is Gremmels, together with Prime Minister Boris Rhein (CDU), who has not yet announced who he will award the Prime Minister's Honorary Prize this year. The most highly endowed cinema prizes for their program work will be awarded to the Mal sehn Kino Frankfurt, the Kino Traumstern Lich (15,000 euros each) as well as the Filmladen Kassel and the Frankfurt Kino Harmonie (13,500 euros each).The winning films will be shown in Frankfurt, Kassel, Bad Nauheim and Darmstadt on 19 and 20 October, and in the Frankfurt cinema for a whole day.
