Notting Hill Carnival: Man charged with murder of Cher Maximen

Shakiel Thibou, 20, was originally charged with attempted murder of Cher Maximen, but is now accused of murdering her after she died of “unsurvivable” injuries on August 31.

The court heard that the 32-year-old victim was attending the Notting Hill Carnival family day with relatives and friends on August 25 when she was stabbed in the groin in broad daylight.

Thibou, of Masbro Road, Hammersmith, appeared at the Old Bailey yesterday (September 9) via video link from HMP Belmarsh.

His brothers, 24-year-old Sheldon Thibou and 21-year-old Shaeim Thibou, appeared via video link from Wandsworth Prison to face lesser charges.

Prosecutor Alistair Richardson told the court that a fight had broken out between the brothers near Cher and her group.

Shakiel attempted to stab a man near Cher with a “large machete-like knife,” the court heard.

The mother tried to intervene in the fight and was injured in the groin area, Richardson said.

She suffered cardiac arrest and was admitted to hospital where she underwent two major surgeries.

“In summary, it was found that she had significant injuries and severe blood loss,” the prosecutor said.

“These injuries proved insurmountable.”

Shakiel, of Masbro Road, Hammersmith, is also charged with possession of a knife in a public place and violent disorder.

Sheldon, of Star Road in Hammersmith, and Shaeim, of Charleville Road in Fulham, are both charged with violent disorder and assault on a paramedic. The former also faces charges of possession of a stun gun.

The three defendants were remanded in custody pending a plea and trial preparation hearing at the same court on 28 November.

The provisional trial date has been set for February 24 next year.
