Doha: United Development Company (UDC), the master developer of Pearl Island and Gewan Islands, has announced the receipt of the prestigious International Safety Award 2024 from the British Safety Council. This award marks the fourth time UDC has been recognised for its outstanding performance in workplace health, safety and wellbeing.

In a tough competition among organizations worldwide, UDC emerged as one of 269 organizations worldwide to receive the prestigious “Distinction Award” for Gewan Island and the prestigious “Winner Award” for The Pearl Island.

UDC recognises organisations that demonstrate an outstanding commitment to health, safety and wellbeing and has achieved significant milestones including 20.4 million safe working hours at a very low accident frequency rate of 0.005 and maintaining an impressive accident frequency rate of 0.07 against a target of 3.0. The company also underlined its commitment to safety through 15,427 HSE inspections, 160 simulated exercises and 3,155 toolbox talks. In addition, UDC has achieved 100% compliance across all planned HSSE audits, inspections and initiatives.

Participation in global safety initiatives underlines UDC's commitment. For example, the company actively participated in the World Day for Safety and Health at Work, organized by the International Labour Organization, in which contractors and service providers on Pearl Island also participated.

UDC's commitment goes beyond regulatory compliance and includes a deep commitment to promoting a safe work environment. The company's initiatives include the production of comprehensive QHSE reports, induction materials and ongoing reviews of business continuity plans and impact assessments.

In addition, UDC conducts safety walks, simulated emergency drills, fire and life inspections, health and safety campaigns, and recognizes excellence in safety with awards and assessments.

These efforts are in line with the ISO 45001:2018 standard for occupational health and safety management systems and underscore UDC's commitment to best practices and continuous improvement in the areas of health, safety, security and the environment (HSSE).

UDC's performance underscores its leadership in exemplary health and safety standards by protecting the wellbeing of its employees and stakeholders and ensuring a sustainable operating environment.
